If you want your kids to excel early in school and develop good habits for the future, then setting an example for them early on is the best way to do this. Once your child enters elementary school, make a conscious effort to ask them how they are doing almost every day. Ask what they are having trouble in and be sure to read to them every night you get a chance. Letting them develop an appreciation for education can really make it a lot easier when they grow up. Read them baby seuss books when they are toddlers and show them how learning and achieving can be fun.
Once they learn this, it can be ingrained within them until they are out of college. By then, you don’t have to worry too much about them anymore. But reading to your children doesn’t just help them achieve better in school and life, it also brings the whole family together. Spending half an hour each night reading to your kids will really show them that you’re there for them consistently. Sitting on the bed with all the Wizard of OZ collectibles and reading the same story over and over again on many nights may not be your idea of the best way to spend time, but to your kids, it’s the part of the day that they look forward to the most.
